Sounds like to me he suspected one of you took his picture without his permission and he was not liking it or he figured that someone was going to take a picture of him and make something about him look bad and take it out of context. Well, that's my best guess to why he reacted to you and your family that way. But I will admit, he shouldn't have been that way towards you and your family and when you explained the situation to the maitre'd, and he explained things to Chris Martin, I will give props to the maitre'd for straightening the situation out and that he made sure that you and your family were treated fairly and that he made sure that Mr. Martin knew what was really going on, which I believe after the maitre'd explained the situation to Martin, he probably felt really dumb and guilty about the situation which he knew the best thing to do is apologize to you and your family. So for one, at least the maitre'd was kind enough to show he had a bigger heart, two, what Chris Martin probably knew that he made an ass of himself and when he was told what was going on, he probably knew that it takes a man to admit his faults, and that it takes a bigger man to apologize for it. Don't worry, I'm not blaming you or your family, I'm just saying that it was good that the maitre'd straightened out the situation and that Chris apologized for his mistake.
